Together Now or Then Apart
I’m sitting here where you can be.
I’m lying here where you can see.
I watch you now, I see your face.
I want to all of you embrace.
As we enjoyed the silent sighs,
As we looked at each other’s eyes,
A chill, a creep, a day foresought
Appeared to threaten what we thought.
To never let you go, I pray,
To never chase your smile away,
To never lose this precious feel.
We never will. Let’s make a deal.
And then we swore with hand on heart
That we shall never step apart.
We swore and promised with a kiss
That all these things we’ll never miss.
We used our blood to put a seal,
A seal much stronger than all steel,
For should one make the other break
They’d have to run for their own sake.
I thought that this would keep us safe.
I thought, but so we dug our grave.
I saw a crack, a line, a bit.
I saw no candle longer lit.
And then again, a sudden burst
We felt, and this one was the worst.
The crack grew larger by the day
And day by day we stepped away.
I’m sitting here now all alone.
I’m waiting here but you’re not home.
I want to feel your breath, your hair.
I can’t believe there’s nothing there.
